Pactis was a global checkout experience designed to let businesses accept payments across fiat and crypto, with support for fixed pricing, dynamic invoices and multiple payment methods. I designed the customer-facing experience across desktop and mobile, working from merchant and customer research through testing and final handoff.

Project Overview

Project Overview

We developed a global payment checkout modal that enables businesses to receive payments in multiple currencies (fiat and crypto) while offering flexibility in payment collection (fixed amounts, dynamic invoicing, and e-commerce integrations). The solution

is a web-based, mobile-responsive widget that can be embedded into any website or payment link.

Background

Background

The need for our payment modal emerged from deep merchant and user research. Interviews with 15+ small and medium-sized businesses revealed lost sales from currency limitations and crypto payment gaps. Competitor benchmarks (Paystack, Flutterwave, etc) exposed missing features like seamless fiat-crypto switching. These insights drove our solution: a unified checkout eliminating currency barriers while building trust in crypto payments.

Pain Points Discovered

Pain Points Discovered

  1. Currency Conversion Hassles

Customers paying in different currencies could face conversion issues

and unnecessary losses.

  1. Limited Payment Options

Many businesses couldn't offer both traditional and crypto payment methods.

  1. Rigid Pricing

Lack of dynamic pricing for different customers or regions.

  1. Poor Mobile Experience

Existing checkout flows often weren't designed around mobile-first payment behavior.

  1. Currency Limitations

Currency & Payment Limitations: About 30% of SMBs reported losing international customers due to unsupported currencies. Only a few businesses could accept crypto, missing out on a growing payment segment.

Research & Benchmarking

Analyzed competitors (Stripe, PayPal, Flutterwave) to identify UX gaps. Conducted user interviews with 15 merchants and 10 customers.

Wireframe & Prototyping

I began with the Merchant’s set up for the Modal (which is beyond the scope of this case study). The set up covers the currencies the merchant want’s to receive as payment, how dynamic the payment should be, and which regions it is accessible to.

Usability Testing

Testing was done in 3 phases. In-house testing with the PMs, engineers and stakeholders, Then testing with the Merchants followed by the Customers. The final designed evolved accordingly...design is never finalized anyway.lobal Payments – Allow merchants to receive funds in preferred currencies.

Fixed & dynamic pricing

Fixed & dynamic pricing

A checkout can start with a fixed price without forcing every customer to think in the merchant's currency. I designed the experience so the amount could adapt to the customer's preferred currency while preserving the original value.

For use cases like donations, the amount itself could remain flexible while the checkout structure stayed consistent.

Crypto was presented alongside traditional payment methods rather than as a separate experience. The goal was to make the underlying payment rail different while keeping the customer's mental model of checkout familiar.

Pactis reinforced a principle I keep coming back to in financial products: flexibility shouldn't mean complexity.

Customers can have more currencies, more payment methods and more ways to transact - as long as the interface gives them a clear path through the decision.

Finding a home is rarely just about finding a property. The Hectre is a people-first housing marketplace designed around how renters actually move, live and find others to live with. I shaped the product from the ground up - from marketplace strategy and matching to the design system that brings it all together.
